Quick update and preview of Southern Montana – Aug 21, 2026

I’m just checking in with a quick update.  I finally got a new computer and it has really improved my quality of life. I can now work on my blog or anything, without it locking up every 15 minutes! I am almost finished with my southern Montana post.

Since I retired, we have been sharing the truck (currently a 2021 3500 HD Chevy Silverado). We are only at home less than 50% of the time, so it made sense, for awhile.  This spring we got a 2026 Chevy Equinox. We are saving a LOT of money on gas and adding far less mileage to the truck, which we plan to keep for awhile.  It has been fun to drive the car and we don’t have to pre-plan parking before we go somewhere.

We have been splitting our time this summer between home and Frankfort. Currently we are booking campsites for a short trip to the UP (northern Michigan Upper Peninsula) in September. I plan to publish my next post in a couple of weeks. At that point, I will be a full year behind……..

A few Montana preview pics:

Our campsite next to Rock Creek in Red Lodge, MT was one of our all-time favorites.

A juvenile American Dipper learning the ropes in Rock Creek. At first I thought it was a stranded juvenile robin. I learned that the dippers live near streams and lakes and spend time on rocks, bobbing up and down.
